We are very excited to welcome all the new children into Reception this term and we have lots of exciting activities planned for both our indoor and outdoor provision. This term we are going to be basing our learning around 'Traditional tales' including The Gingerbread Man, Jack and the Beanstalk and The three Billy Goats Gruff. We are also going to be finding out about different festivals from around the world.
The EYFS Curriculum takes into account the needs and interests of the children and as a result is constantly evolving and changing. Keep an eye out for our Tapestry posts where we will update you with all our exciting learning activities and new learning.
Take a look at our EYFS curriculum below for actitivites we will be covering throughout the year.

Phonics Parent Video
The staff from Nursery, Reception and Year One have come together to make a video for you. Please don’t expect any wonderful acting or photography but we are hoping that this makes your child’s phonic journey a little bit clearer to you.
Please find the link below so that you can watch it in your leisure.

Once the children come into Reception they are ready to continue their phonics journey. For children that have come up from our Nursery they will have come across the characters of Floppy’s phonics before, those that are joining us, will get to meet them for the first time.
In Reception we use the Floppy’s phonics material to guide our phonics teaching. We have carefully looked at the scheme and made sure that how we deliver it supports the new curriculum and that it meets the needs of the children and supports all the other areas of learning. When using this scheme, we have made sure that children are introduced to sounds in an order that gives them the best possible foundation for their reading and writing.
Throughout the year, Floppy phonics will run alongside our English scheme of work to develop children’s reading and spelling using a phonetic approach.

As the children progress throughout the year, we will carefully monitor their progress, making sure that they have the support and the stretch that they need. The Floppy’s phonics material is designed to support those that need additional support with carefully targeted interventions whilst also providing stretch and challenge for those children that need it.
Our Pathways to Write books across the year
Autumn 1 | Autumn 2 | Spring 1 | Spring 2 | Summer 1 | Summer 2 |
Autumn 1
The Gingerbread Man
Outcome: Depict the main events of the story using between 3 and 5 images. Pupils to mark make next to each image explaining what is happening.
Autumn 2
Festivals
Outcome: To draw and label a plan to build a snowman including things that they will need to decorate the snowman at the end.
In Reception we follow Mastering Number: a nationwide project aimed at teachers and pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. It is aimed at strengthening the understanding of number, and fluency with number facts, among children in the first three years of school. Over the year, we will use a range of materials and representations, including a small abacus-like piece of equipment called a rekenrek.
Below you can see the coverage of what we will be learning when.
Suitable Clothing
In Reception a lot of our time is spent outside. Please ensure that your child is well equipped for all weather. This includes sending your child in with a water bottle, a sun hat/glasses and sun cream that is clearly named. As we approach the cooler months you may want to send hats and gloves into school. These are best kept in your child's bookbag in their tray.
PE
The children have P.E lessons every Friday. The children are able to come into school in their PE kit on a Friday and wear this all day.
Reading
We send home book bags and reading diaries daily which should also come into school everyday. We will send home new reading books on Friday ready for the weekend.
Tapestry
Remember to look on Tapestry frequently to see some of the amazing things we are getting up to! We will continue to keep updating Tapestry with any important information as well as any observations we make on your children. Alternatively we would love you to upload anything that your child is doing at home as we love to learn about your child's learning journey at home.
Water Bottles
All children have been given a school water bottle. This needs to be brought to school each day having been washed and re filled with fresh water from home. Children will be reminded at the end of the day to bring home their lunch bag and water bottle to be washed ready for the next day. We have turned off our water filter system so children will not be able to fill up their water bottle in the usual way. All classes have access to drinking water throughout the day should the children require extra water.
Coats
Please ensure your child brings a coat to school each day. We always try to allow the children their outdoor breaks which may mean us putting coats on to go out in the rain as much as possible without getting too wet. Please ensure all coats are clearly named.
