Young voices

Young Voices is an opportunity for our children to join with children regionally and nationally to experience singing in a huge choir. The choirs involved range from 4,500 to 8,500 children, all performing at the same time to capacity audiences of friends and family. We will perform at the Manchester Arena in January 2018. We have taken part in young voices for the last 6 years and are very proud to be involved again this year.

Nothing can prepare you for the sound of thousands of children singing in harmony. Young Voices combines the power of singing together as one, with accompaniment from a wide range of musicians and artists, to create an amazing performance.

Every year, schools across the country practise with their teachers to prepare themselves to take part in these massive concerts. Over the years the children in the choir have performed with artists such as Alexandra Burke, Joss Stone, and Gary Barlow as well as raising over 1 million pounds for Children’s charities such as CLIC Sargent.

With a full live band, backing singers and the internationally acclaimed conductor David Lawrence, it makes for one of the most exciting and memorable musical experiences you can imagine.

Mrs Mills, Loraine (our singing and music teacher) and Mrs Beavis lead young voices. Team Voice, comprising of children from Year 4, 5 and 6, rehearse every Wednesday after school from 3.30-4.30 pm, in the KS2 area. If you wish your child to be collected from the top gate, or they are walking home, please state this in writing / verbally to staff so we can ensure the safety of our children.

We are looking forward to our rehearsals and the opportunities we have to perform in public. The confidence and camaraderie Young Voices affords our children is a privilege to be part of, and creates memories that stay with our children for a long time. It's great to know every single word, but it's not compulsory. However, having fun is!! If in doubt- dance. Happy Singing Everyone !!

September 2017

Rehearsals have begun!! It was so lovely to see many old faces along with our new members, excited to participate this year. The first rehearsal was amazing. The children sang beautifully and loved this year's Pop Medley. The Name That Toon Medley highlighted the generation gap between staff and pupils, but there was also alot of common ground (Scooby Doo and The Flintstones being some).

Lyrics were handed out so children can practise at home. If anyone needs the lyrics in a larger format just let Mrs Mills know. Some of the songs can be found on Youtube. With your parents you can type in Young Voices 2018, and at a later date there will probably be videos to help with the actions / dancing. If you type Young Voices 2018 into google, there are many links taking you to schools that have uploaded the tracks and lyrics, such as

Practising at home will help you to remember the words. This week have a look at Name That Toon - you might enjoy watching some of the cartoons too. Even your parents will know some of the words !!

October 2017

Rehearsals are going well - the choir sounds amazing and some of our members know all the words already!! Mrs Beavis has thrown down the gauntlet and challenged them to sing all of the words to The Pink Panther better than she can!

Deadlines are due for the end of this half term for audience tickets and T-shirt orders if required. Letters have been handed out to the children and the office has a copy if needed.

Keep Practising :)

November 2017

We have been invited to participate in our first public performance as Team Voice 2017, at Shavington Academy on 7th December, 6-8pm (choir members need to be there for 5.30pm). They are holding their annual Christmas Concert, and have asked us to join them, along with Wistaston Church Lane Primary School, to perform a small selection of songs. We will perform a couple from the Young Voices repertoire amd our own version of The Twelve Days Of Christmas. The members of the choir chose what they wanted to perform and all have said they are available to come. We love everyone's enthusiasm!

A letter has gone out with all details and a return slip for our records. Tickets for the Christmas Concert at Shavington Academy can be purchased from their Main Reception.
