All children are continually assessed throughout their time at Shavington Primary School. Foundation stage children are assessed against The Early Learning Goals criteria . All other children are assessed against the national curriculum objectives for their year group. Teachers assess children's learning, making judgments in reading, writing and numeracy. Teachers use day to day tasks to assess children's learning as well as more formal methods during achievement weeks. Foundation subjects are assessed against key skills. Our on-going assessments inform teacher's planning to ensure all children's needs are met.
All staff working with children within our school mark children's work following our tickled pink and green for growth marking policy. The children also engage in this process when peer assessing and making self assessments. Any comments in pink are a celebration of what went well and objectives met, whilst any comments in green are next steps for children to further develop. We have introduced purple polishing pens. This is enabling children the opportunity to edit their work by making changes in purple.
As a school we formally assess children in reading, writing, numeracy, science and ICT on a termly basis. Teachers track pupil progress and set new targets in literacy and numeracy as appropriate. Parents are informed about their child's learning at our 3 parents evenings held throughout the year. Parents' receive a full academic report in the summer term which indicates academic progress and attainment.
At the end of KS1 (year 2) National Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) are undertaken in literacy and numeracy. These are marked internally and moderated externally. The teacher's assessments are reported to parents.

Reporting to Parents
It is very important to us that parents are aware of their child's attitude to learning, progress and attainment. This is done through parent and child meetings and a formal end of year written report. We allow our children and parents the option to come along to parents evening together so achievements can be celebrated and any areas of concern raised so all parties are working together for the benefit of the child.
