Year 4C 2018 - 2019
Welcome back to the Summer term! I hope you have all had a restful break and are feeling refreshed and ready for the new term. We were very lucky to enjoy the beautiful sunshine during the Easter break.
Our new topic for this final term is, "Ancient Greece". This is a fantastic topic, filled with a wide variety of myths and legends. We will be exploring some of the main myths and legends from Ancient Greece and in particular, the monsterous Medusa. We will be looking at how the Greeks developed democracy as well as the Olympic games. We will be having a fun-filled Greek Day, where we will be learning about Athenians and Spartans. We will also be enjoying a Greek day based on the language and food/drink cultures. It is going to be a superb topic and we will be using a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction books to support our learning.
All of you will be given a new topic homework plan and this will be stuck into your Home School Diary. There will also be a copy attached on our Year 4 web page when the homework grid is completed.
We also continue to ask you to enjoy reading regularly at home, work on your times tables and we may set additional maths tasks which can be completed through the online 'My Maths' program or using 'Sumdog'. These activities will continue to be recorded in Home School Diaries. In Year 4, there is a huge focus on times tables. Please can children ensure that they are learning their times tables on a regular basis. The National Curriculum states that pupils should be able to fluently recall their times tables up to 12 x 12. Here is a link which can help children recall their tables fluently and efficiently. https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/477/Multiplication-Tables-Check
There will also be weekly spellings given out each week on a Monday and tested the following Monday.
This term we will have PE with Mr Slaney, Mr Jones and Mr Biggs from Premier Sports who will work with us on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. All children need red shorts, pumps and trainers (outdoors). The new coloured T-shirts (one for each of our houses) for PE can be ordered from the school's online uniform supplier. Girls will need to tie long hair back and cover any earrings. PE kits will also stay in school all term now.
