Welcome to the Spring Term in Year 1

We hope that you have had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.  Thank you very much for the lovely presents that you gave to us at the end of the Autumn Term.  Your generosity overwhelms us.

You will have noticed that the Key Stage 2 building has been demolished, the rubble has been removed and the foundations for the new building have been laid.  This term the construction will begin.  It is going to be very exciting to see the new classrooms appearing.  The theme for this term in Year 1 is "Bob the Builder - Can he build it?"  Look out for Bob the Builder and his friends working at our school!

Children should bring a freshly washed PE kit in on the first day of term and their PE kits should remain in school until half term. Our PE lessons will be on Monday and Wednesday.

Water Bottles

Every child in Year 1 has access to fresh drinking water.  Please ensure that your child has a school water bottle in school throughout the week. Your child's water bottle will be sent home every Friday so that it can be washed ready for the new week.

In year 1 reading is really important. Your child needs to have their book bag in school everyday. They will change their reading book every week on a specific day. To help your child progress in this we ask that you read with your child as much as possible and that you record it in their diary.

There is a new Spring Term homework grid for the children to complete.  This grid will be sent home with the children in their home school diary and a copy of the grid will also be available on the Year 1 class page of the school website.  The children need to complete enough homework in the term to gain 12 points. There will be a homework exhibition at the end of each term, so that children can share their successes with you and you can see the work completed by other classes.

The child will also have some spellings homework.  Five words will be glued into your child's diary on a Friday and then he or she has a week in which to learn how to spell these words.  The class has a spelling quiz on Friday morning.  Please support your child as he or she learns how to spell these words.

Phonics screening test

All Year 1 children must be present in school for the week beginning Monday 11th June 2018 due to the Phonics screening test.
