Welcome to the Autumn Term in Year 1

We hope that you have had a great Summer holiday full of exciting things to share with us.We are really looking forward to getting to know you all and working hard and having fun together with our new topic.

This term our topic is "Who lives in a house like this?" We will be exploring houses and homes.

Who would live in a house like this?

We will be starting our English this term with the wonderful book 'Caveman Dave' by Nick Sharratt - see below for a video of the story that you can share at home.  We will also be reading 'The Worst Witch' by Jill Murphy which will help us with our ICT topic  and give us a different type of home to think about.

Children should bring a freshly washed PE kit in on the first day of term and their PE kits should remain in school until half term. Our PE lessons will be on a Monday and Wednesday.

Water Bottles

All chidlren have been given a new water bottle at the begining of the year. Every child in Year 1 has access to fresh drinking water.  Please ensure that your child has a school water bottle in school throughout the week. Your child's water bottle will be sent home every Friday so that it can be washed ready for the new week.

In year 1 reading is really important. Your child needs to have their book bag in school every day. They will change their reading book every week on a specific day. To help your child progress in this we ask that you read with your child as much as possible and that you record it in their diary.

There is a new AutumnTerm homework grid for the children to complete.  This grid will be sent home with the children in their home school diary and a copy of the grid will also be available on the Year 1 class page of the school website.  The children need to complete enough homework in the term to gain 12 points. There will be a homework exhibition at the end of each term so that children can share their successes with you and you can see the work completed by other classes.

Children will also be given spelling homework. Spellings will be glued into your child's diary on a Friday and then they will have a quiz on these spelling the following Friday. Please support your child at home with these key spellings.

Phonics screening test

All Year 1 children must be present in school for the week beginning Monday 10th June 2019 due to the Phonics screening test.
