Welcome to the Spring Term in Year 1

We hope that you have had a great Christmas and New Year. We (Mrs Hunter and Mrs Gawn) are so excited about starting teaching you this term alongside Mrs Chapman and can't wait to hear about what you got up to in the holidays.

You will have noticed that the Key Stage 2 building has been demolished , the rubble has been removed and the foundations for the new buildings have been laid. This term the construction will begin. We can't wait to see the new clasrooms appearing as the year goes on. the theme for this term in year 1 is "Bob the Builder- Can he build it?  Look out for Bob the Builder and his friends working in our school!

PE

Children should bring a freshly washed PE kit in on the first day of term and their PE kits should remain in school until half term. Our PE lessons will be on Monday and Wednesday.

Water Bottles

Every child in Year 1 has access to fresh drinking water.  Please ensure that your child has a school water bottle in school throughout the week. Your child's water bottle will be sent home every Friday so that it can be washed ready for the new week.

Reading

In year 1 reading is really important. Your child needs to have their book bag in school every day. They will change their reading book every week on a specific day. To help your child progress in this we ask that you read with your child as much as possible and that you record it in their diary.

Homework

There is a new Spring Term homework grid for the children to complete.  This grid will be sent home with the children in their home school diary and a copy of the grid will also be available on the Year 1 class page of the school website.  The children need to complete enough homework in the term to gain 12 points. There will be a homework exhibition at the end of each term so that children can share their successes with you and you can see the work completed by other classes.

All children have been set up with a username and password for the My Maths website.  A letter will be sent out at the beginning of this term.

Phonics screening test

All Year 1 children must be present in school for the week beginning Monday 11th June 2018 due to the Phonics screening test.
