Year 1 2016 - 2017
We hope that you have had a lovely Easter break!
This term our topic is 'The Carnival of the Animals'. This exciting topic has been inpsired by the music by Camille Saint-Saens. Throughout the topic the children will have the opportunity to listen to the music, learn about the different animals represented throughout the music and create lots of wonderful things in Art and DT.
Children have PE on a Monday with Mrs Glover and on Wednesday with Mr Bentham. Children should bring a freshly washed PE kit in on the first day of term and their PE kits should remain in school until half term.
Every child in Year 1 has access to fresh drinking water. Please ensure that your child has a school water bottle in school throughout the week. Your child's water bottle will be sent home every Friday so that it can be washed ready for the new week.
In year 1 reading is really important. Your child needs to have their book bag in school everyday. They will change their reading book every week on a specific day. To help your child progress in this we ask that you read with your child as much as possible and that you record it in their diary. If you would like your child to change their book before their reading day, please tell them to pop it into the book basket first thing in the morning so that Mrs Wilkinson is able to change it.
This term there will be a new Summer Term homework grid for the children to complete. Children need to complete enough homework in the term to gain 12 points. There will be a homework exhibition at the end of each term, so that children can share their successes with you and you can see the work completed by other classes. This will be sent home with the children in their home school diary and a copy of the gird will be available on the Year 1 class page.
All children have been set up on My Maths. A letter was sent out at the beginning of this term.
