Year 5 Week beginning 16.10.2017

Date: 25th Oct 2017 @ 9:42am

This week in year 5, we have been continuing to practise our new methods of addition and subtraction in our maths lessons. We have been using our new knowledge to decide with operation to use for different questions and to solve some tricky multistep problems. We have become very confident with inverse calculations and also using rounding to estimate answers.

In English, we finished our letters home and moved on to poetry. We have been looking at the different styles of language and features of poems. We have practised using metaphors, similes and personification. The poem we have been looking at is called ‘Stop All The Clocks,’ and we are working on changing it and creating a class poem called ‘Stop All The Bombs.’ We are writing it as an evacuee, who doesn’t what to leave their home or family.

In topic, we have continued to look at evacuation. The suitcases looked brilliant and it was lovely to see what things the children thought were their most important things to take with them for evacuation. They have written up the reasons why they decided to take their 3 special things for their topic books.

I hope everyone has a lovely half term break.
