Year 1 blog 16.1.16

Date: 16th Jan 2016 @ 8:37pm

Our topic this term is "Around the world in 80 days" and we visited Lapland during the first week of the new term.  It was very cold!  To help us to imagine that we were in a chilly country we used our senses to explore an ice cube.  We licked an ice cube, we listened to it and we smelt it.

We listed some describing words and then we used these "wow" words in our writing.

In maths we used multilink cubes to measure the size of footprints in the snow.

After Lapland we moved onto Africa.  We read the story "Handa's Surprise" and tasted some of the delicious fruits that Handa put into her basket.  The avacado was not popular with the children!

We have been learning how to tell the time.  We can tell the time to the hour and to the half hour.
