Week beginning Monday 29th January 2018

Date: 1st Feb 2018 @ 12:44pm

Our book this week was 'Room on the Broom' by Julia Donaldson.

In Literacy, the children followed a recipe to make Witch Jelly.  We had a visit from Winnie the Witch, who helped us to make the jelly.  Our jelly had jewels, magic drops and witch juice in it.  During the focus groups, the children had a go at using their phonic knowledge to write their own set of instructions for the jelly and some of use wrote a list of what you need to make Witch Jelly.  The independent group wrote captions and small sentences about pictures from 'Room on the Broom'.

In Maths, the children have been learning all about capacity.  The children have really enjoyed experimenting with water and a variety of containers.  The children have been guessing how many cups it will take to fill up different containers.  The children have been learning the vocabulary: full, empty and half full to describe the amount of water in containers.

Our Role Play Area was transformed into a Potion Shop and the children have really enjoyed playing alongside each other to create their own narratives.  On the Messy Table, the children have been using lots of different materials, media and tools to create witch hats and magical wands.  In the Construction Area, the children were challenged to make a seat for the cat, frog and dog using the construction resources.  In the Funky Finger Area, the children have been practising their tripod grip using the tweezers to pick up feathers and bows.  In the Water Area, the children have been continuing their learning of capacity, with glittery, coloured water and lots of different containers.  In our Outdoor Area, the children have been playing lots of physical games, including Find the Phoneme and the tricky words.
