Week Beginning 02.10.17

Date: 6th Nov 2017 @ 8:13pm

This week in Year 6 we have been busy preparing our own character description of Mr Reynolds. We have used the text the gather information about the way he looks, what type of character he is and where he lives. We have also been working on using different sentence structures in our writing, including using relative pronouns to create relative clauses, changing the position of subordinate clauses in sentences and using parenthesis to add in extra detail.

In our Math’s work we have been using multiplication and division to calculate. We are using the bus stop method for our short division. We have realised that our times tables knowledge is very important when it comes to these two operations and this will be a focus for our Math’s homework in the coming weeks.

We have been thinking about our citizenship focus for this term, which is developing an interest in volunteering. We have spent time thinking about what volunteering is and why you would want to volunteer. We are going to be thinking about ways in which we can use our citizenship time to volunteer around the school and then within the wider school community.

In art we have started to think about what image we would like to create for our own WW2 line drawing, where we will then add detail using charcoal, graphite pencils and pastels. We are developing our skills with smudging and shading to build effects in our drawings.

We have recapped on some of our previous learning about electricity, in science this week, before we move on to looking at the history of electricity and the impact it has on our lives today.
