Week beginning 29/02/16

Date: 2nd Mar 2016 @ 7:14pm

Wow! What an action packed couple of weeks we have had in Year 3.

We have looked at chapter four in our class book and discovered that Lila has made it to the mountain but that Chulak is far away! It's nail biting stuff! We are not sure what will happen to Lila-we hope it's good news though!

We had a lovely Book Club session last week and we learnt all about Enid Blyton. We were really surprised to learn that the first edition of 'The Wishing Chair' was published in 1939...even Miss Willington wasn't born then!

We have also created a postcard for Shavington's 'Whole School Writing Week'. This term the book we have focused on is 'Where My Wellies Take Me...' by Clare and Michael Morpurgo. It is a beautiful book, the children really enjoyed looking at it. We created a postcard from the secret place that our wellies had taken us (e.g. the beach, the park, a farm) and we were very keen to incorporate some adverbs into our writing to make it really interesting. Well done Year 3!

In maths, we have been looking at division, multiplication and inverse operations. We were all happy with multiplication, but we found division harder, even when we inversed the problem. We will work on this again. Next week we will look at fractions, so the children will look again at sharing a number or object equally.

The highlight of the last two weeks has been the trip to Catalyst Science Centre in Widnes. We had an amazing time. It was so much fun! We made a fossil and saw how a volcano erupts. We all behaved impeccably and Miss Willington was extremely proud of us! There are some photos on here if anyone would like to take a peep!

Another highlight was when we took part in 'World Book Day' and we came to school dressed as our favourite character/author from a book. Lots and effort and thought had gone into the costumes and we all looked amazing!

We all hope that the 'mums' of year three enjoyed their special day on Sunday and that the love hearts and cards made it home in one piece!
